Jeffrey Qualls

Jeffrey Alexander Qualls, 34, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at his home in Richardson, Texas.

He was born September 4, 1974, in Denton, Texas. He graduated in 1993 from El Centro in Dallas. He served his country in the US Air Force in Japan and England. Before returning to school, he was employed at 7Up/DrPepper; then, as a software developer, survived several years of employment with the old CompUSA. He was a Dean’s List honors student at Richland Community College, and was currently a creative writing major at the University of Texas at Dallas. He was a multiply published poet of recognized talent and potential.

Jeffrey is survived by his life partner, Eduard Qualls of Richardson, his mother, Martha Puckett of Dallas; grandparents, Bobbie (Granny) and J.C. Lowry of Corinth, Texas; two aunts, Janice Glass and Karen Wilson; three cousins, Joseph Wilson, and Bob and Brian Lucas; and by his close, long-time friend, Melissa Starnes. He will be terribly missed by his family and many friends.

Memorial Service will be 7:30 PM, Sunday, July 19, 2009, at the Community Unitarian Universalist Church of Plano, 2875 E. Parker Road, Plano, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Animal Rescue of Texas and NorCal Boxer Rescue of Texas.
Partly because he had had 17 works accepted for publication before finishing his junior year, he was given a Distinguished Student award in 2010 by Richland College, albeit posthumously.

Jeffrey’s cause of death was ruled by the coroner to be undetermined, due to the fact that (despite 9 years of mis-diagnoses and their resulting incorrect medications following from a wreck in 1997 and psychiatric failure to treat what turned out to be a severe concussion: a neurological, closed-head {brain} injury) there was no definitive cause of his singular, fatal seizure.
